OLD JERUSALEM ROOFS AND WALLS PRIVATE TOUR

Have you been to Jerusalem before? Have you traveled through the city streets on your several times, seeing the Western Wall and the Church of the Holy Sepulcher? On a private tour of the roofs and walls of Old Jerusalem, you will explore the stunning observation points of the Old City of Jerusalem like never before.

PRIVATE TOUR OF THE WALLS AND ROOFS OF OLD JERUSALEM - BACKGROUND

PRIVATE TOUR OF THE WALLS AND ROOFS OF OLD JERUSALEM

Jerusalem is rich in gorgeous and sacred historical landmarks, and thankfully for the inexperienced tourist, it is also rich in spectacular viewpoints that allow access to breathtaking views. The observation sites I've gathered for you on the private tour of Jerusalem's roofs and walls highlight the beauty and history of Jerusalem's Old City in ways you've never seen before, and no visit to Jerusalem would be complete without them.

WHAT ARE THE SPECTACULAR LOOKOUTS OF JERUSALEM OLD CITY?

1.360° OBSERVATION FROM THE TOWER OF DAVID

OBSERVATION POINT FROM THE TOWER OF DAVID JERUSALEM

Traditionally, we will begin at the entrance to Jerusalem's Old City, Jaffa Gate. You've probably heard of the Tower of David and the amazing museum that houses it. But what about the panoramic viewpoint in the Petzael Tower, an ancient watchtower close to King Herod's Tower of David? This is one of the most spectacular observation spots we've had the pleasure of inaugurating. From the Petzael Tower, you can see the Old City of Jerusalem, the New City, the Mount of Olives, Mount Scopus, the Judean Desert, and the Jordanian Moab Mountains. This is a must-see sight for any tourist visiting Jerusalem, as it overlooks the entire Old City.

Plus, think of the amazing photos you can take from the tower!

What else can be done at the Tower of David Museum?

The Night Show in the Tower of David is an amazing attraction for the whole family in Jerusalem and can be combined any day of the week during a tour of the rooftops and walls of Old Jerusalem, the show lasts half an hour and radiates the history of Jerusalem.

2. THE NORTHERN WALLED PROMENADE OF OLD JERUSALEM

JERUSALEM RAMPARTS PRIVATE TOUR

Walking through the streets of Old Jerusalem is great, but have you ever tried to rampart walk? Thanks to the development of the Jerusalem Municipality today the experience is possible throughout the northern wall which was built in the 16th century by the great builders of Jerusalem-sultan Suleiman the magnificent! The walls were designed to protect Jerusalem from Its enemies but today the city walls are open to visitors.

The ascent to the walls during the private tour of the walls and roofs of Jerusalem is easy and the walk is not long at all.

From the walls of Jerusalem, you can see the new part of Jerusalem which includes the city hotels, Guy Ben Hinnom and the Sultan's Pools and along the walk on the wall of course you can overlook the Armenian Quarter which is mostly closed to visitors throughout the day, Mount Zion and the giant clock tower, residents' houses, Mount of Olives Jerusalems iconic location, and hidden pools that are closed to the general public.

3. SEE THE MOUNTAINS FROM THE ROOF OF THE AUSTRIAN HOSPICE

ROOF OF THE AUSTRIAN HOSPICE LOOKOUT

The Austrian Hospice is a hotel established in Jerusalem 150 years ago and has been in full operation ever since, without a break. In the three-story building housed in the Old Town, you will also find a European café serving typical dishes of Vienna's food tradition (such as schnitzel and strudel) and a small church with spectacular murals. The cafe itself opens onto a pastoral and inviting garden, but the main attraction is the roof of the building which has become one of the most sought-after lookout points in the Old Town. From the roof, you can overlook the roofs of the Old City, the Western Wall, the Dome of the Rock, the Church of the Holy Sepulcher, the Judean Mountains, and on clear days you can even see the Jordan Mountains on the horizon.

The observation from the roof of the Austrian Hospice should be combined with a private tour of Jerusalem along the Via Dolorosa within the Muslim Quarter.

4. OBSERVATION FROM THE ROOF OF THE HURVA SYNAGOGUE

HURVA SYNAGOGUE OBSERVATION POINT JERUSALEM

Did you visit the Jewish Quarter during your tour of Old Jerusalem?

The Hurva Synagogue is the largest and most famous in the Jewish Quarter of the Old City, the Hurva Synagogue has gained a unique and distinct status over the years, and the synagogue's surroundings became one of the most prominent sites of the Jewish community in Jerusalem, especially after the synagogue was completed in 1864.

Around the synagogue are some of the most important institutions of the Ashkenazi community in Jerusalem: Yeshivat Etz Chaim, the Beit Din, charitable institutions, and Beit Midrash - institutions that were used by the Jews in Jerusalem in the 19th century until the modern era.

Today you can visit the rebuilt synagogue, to be impressed by the special beauty of the synagogue space. From the tallest ark in the world, and to hear the story of the place. See the history of the archeological/basement floor of the synagogue. And above all, to admire a spectacular view, from the balcony of the dome of the synagogue ˚ 360 over the old and new Jerusalem.

5. PANORAMIC LOOKOUT OF THE WESTERN WALL AT YESHIVAT ESH HATORAH

YESHIVAT ESH HATORAH LOOKOUT JERUSALEM

The "Esh Ha Torah" organization deals with the meaning of Judaism and mediates among Jews all over the world. The organization's headquarters is housed in an ancient building facing the Western Wall plaza and naturally serves as a sought-after vantage point from which one can overlook the Western Wall in all its glory and the tourists and locals who crowd it and place notes between its stones. Do not forget to take the camera with you.

The view from the roof of "Esh HaTorah" is excellent for overlooking the Western Wall, but from it, you can also see the entire Jewish Quarter in all its glory, the Mount of Olives and all the famous churches built on it, the valleys that surround Jerusalem and much much more.

If you are planning a Bar Mitzvah ceremony for your children, this is one of the best and most beautiful places to hold an exciting and memorable ceremony.

6. A NEW VIEW FROM THE ROOF OF THE CHURCH OF THE HOLY SEPULCHER

CHURCH OF THE HOLY SEPULCHER ROOF VIEW

On a private tour of Jerusalem's rooftops and ramparts, I provide unique places where almost no tourists visit, and the next site is above the holiest place in the world for the Christian community.

At the end of the visit to the Church of the Holy Sepulcher, we will ascend to the roof of the most important church in the world, at the main exit we will turn left and ascend through the amazing Ethiopian part and exit to the church roof which overlooks the domes of the Church and the German Church of the Savior.

You can also visit the Coptic Church which is hidden from visitors and where is the famous pool of Queen Helena from which the church was built and also served as the only water source in Jerusalem in the 6th century AD.

7. OUTSIDE THE WALLS OF JERUSALEM - BREATHTAKING SUNSET ON MOUNT ZION

SUNSET ON MOUNT ZION OBSERVATION POINT JERUSALEM

One of the observation points that many people give up is outside the site of King David's Tomb (where the room of the last supper is also located), based on Mount Zion and overlooks the Dormition Church, the Mount of Olives, and the rooftops of the Old City. You should visit the site before sunset so that when you go outside you can catch the ancient landscape at its best, as the sun goes down on the city walls and paints it in bright colors of gold that emphasize its beauty.

8. CLASSIC RAMPARTS HIKE ON THE WALLS OF JERUSALEM

CLASSIC RAMPARTS HIKE ON THE WALLS OF JERUSALEM

It is impossible to talk about observations in the Old City without mentioning the famous Walls Promenade attraction. The attraction will allow you to climb the walls that surround the old city and walk on them in two different routes: the northern section and the southern section. The northern section will take you from the Jaffa Gate to the Lions Gate during which you will overlook the roofs of the Christian Quarter, the Church of the Holy Sepulcher, the lively Market Street, Notre Dame Monastery, and the Roman Square.

The southern section will take you towards the Dung Gate and allow you to observe the Jewish Quarter on the one hand and the other the Mishkenot Sha'ananim neighborhood which was the first neighborhood built outside the city walls and in the center the iconic Montefiore windmill. No matter which route you choose - you will be amazed.

9. THE MOST ICONIC LOOKOUT IN THE WORLD - THE MOUNT OF OLIVES

THE MOST ICONIC LOOKOUT IN THE WORLD THE MOUNT OF OLIVES

Although the Mount of Olives is outside the walls of the Old City, it is difficult to ignore its observation point, which has become the most iconic observation point identified with the Jerusalem landscape and serves as a meeting point for most private tours of Jerusalem. In the center of the mountain view, you can see the Dome of the Rock and the other mosques, churches, synagogues, and rooftops of the city that surrounds it - but the special thing about the mountain view is the contrast between the old city and the new, which you will not fully see at any other observation point in Jerusalem.

Every private tour of the roofs and walls of Jerusalem should start from here, the full picture of the city will open before your eyes, and the most famous pictures that most tourists do you can do right here.

It is recommended to visit the Mount of Olives, the Church of All Nations, and the tomb of Mary... located at the foot of the Mount of Olives.
